Lady Bears Capture Homecoming Win With Sweep Over Delaware State

BALTIMORE, Md. (Oct. 15, 2017)-Cristen Coryatt recorded a match-high 16 kills, eight digs and two service aces to lead Morgan State to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-20) homecoming sweep of visiting Delaware State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division match at Hill Field House.

Sunday's contest was the Lady Bears' first homecoming match since Oct. 6, 2013, a 3-1 victory also against Delaware State. Due to the league's schedule the last three years, Morgan State had been on the road the week of homecoming.

Morgan State (3-15, 2-3 MEAC), who was coming off a heartbreaking five-set loss to Maryland Eastern Shore on Friday evening, also got strong offensive performances Natashia Barker and Keana Browne. Barker finished with a double-double of 10 kills and a match-high 18 digs, while Browne added 10 kills and had a team-high .444 attack percentage. Mykaela Ross had 10 digs, three kills and a match-high three service aces, while Roi Wallace finished with a match-high 37 assists and nine digs.

Delaware State (1-19, 1-3 MEAC) was led by Sydney Armbrister, who finished with eight kills and a match-high six blocks, including two solo blocks. Mayah Ngundam added five blocks to help the Hornets hold a 7.0-2.0 blocking advantage over Morgan State. Gabriella Enriquez totaled 21 assists. Alliyah McBean had a team-best 14 digs and Taula Leimaluhia added 11 digs.

The Lady Bears tallied 15 kills in each of the three sets and had a .367 attack percentage in Set 1. Morgan State would finish the match with 45 kills, an attack percentage of .219 and had 54 digs. The Lady Bears also had five service aces, but committed nine service errors.

The Lady Bears will be off until Friday, Oct. 20, when they visit crosstown rival Coppin State in a MEAC match. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the CSU Physical Education Complex Arena.
