Women's basketball opens 2012-13 season at home for the first time in eight years.
BALTIMORE, Md. (July 16, 2012)-The Morgan State women's basketball team will open its 2012-13 campaign against the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) on Friday, Nov. 9 at 5:30 p.m. at Hill Field House.
The game will mark the first season opener at home for the Lady Bears in eight seasons. The last time Morgan State opened the season at home came during the 2004-05 season, a 73-54 loss to Albany.
The meeting will be the 22nd between the Lady Bears and Retrievers. UMBC holds a 12-9 all-time advantage. Last season UMBC defeated MSU, 72-50 in the season opener at UMBC to record its seventh straight victory over the Lady Bears.
Coached by Phil Stern, who enters his 11th year at UMBC, the squad finished 17-15 during the 2011-12 season and reached the America East championship game, before falling to Albany. The Retrievers became just the second No. 5-seed to ever make it to the America East title game.
