Boston College Drops Lady Bears With No-Hitter in 49er Invitational Opener, 10-0

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Feb. 24, 2012)-Boston College's Tory Speer went 2-for-3, including a home run, scored twice and finished with a game-high 4RBI to lead Boston College to a 10-0 non-conference victory over Morgan State in five innings in the opener of the 49er Invitational hosted by UNC Charlotte.

While Boston College's offense produced 13 hits, its pitching held Morgan State hitless for the game with a combined no-hitter between pitchers Nicole D'Argento and Chelsea Dimon.

The offensive performance of Speer was nearly duplicated by teammate Brittany Wilkins, who also went 2-for-3, including a home run, scored twice and drove in 3RBI. D'Argento, CJ Chirichigno and Andrea Filler also recorded two hits for the Eagles, who improved to 5-1, while Morgan State fell to 1-4.

Morgan State's two base runners for the game came in the first inning by the first two batters D'Argento faced when Devina Brown was hit by a pitch to start the game off and Shareday Christina followed her by reaching on a fielder's choice. From that point on D'Argento and Dimon would each face no more than three batters per inning.

BC, which scored six times in the first inning, took a 3-0 lead just three batters into the second half of the first when Wilkins homered to left field. An RBI single up the middle by Speer scored the fourth run, D'Argento singled through the left side to score two more and give the Eagles a 6-0 lead.

BC added three more runs in the second inning when Speer hit a three-run shot to center field, increasing the advantage to 9-0.
The Eagles' final run came in the third inning when Ali Lynette-Krech doubled to left center, scoring Wilkins for the 10th run.

Jordan Eades (1-3) was charged with the loss, while D'Argento earned the victory.

The Lady Bears return to action later on this afternoon, when they take on a familiar foe from back home, the Tigers of Towson. First pitch is at 4 p.m.
