BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 20, 2012)-Morgan State will welcome the Lady Aggies of North Carolina A&T on Saturday, Jan. 21 for a 2 p.m. Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) match-up at Hill Field House.
Morgan State (3-14, 0-4 MEAC), which is in the midst of a four-game homestand, will look to avoid going winless at home before heading back on the road. The Lady Bears are also hoping to prevent their first 3-15 start since the 2005-06 campaign, head coach Donald Beasley's first season at Morgan and their first 0-5 MEAC start since the 2002-03 season, when that team finished 0-18 against MEAC competition.
BEAR CLAWS: Morgan State, which will wrap up its four-game homestand against N.C. Central on Monday, enters Saturday's N.C. A&T contest having dropped two straight at Hill Field House to begin this homestand. The Lady Bears are coming off an 83-51 loss to Hampton (1/16), its largest defeat of the season. DeKeisha Mathis, Chyress Lockhart and Whitney Southerland all scored nine points to lead Morgan State. The Lady Bears have been paced by Mathis, who is averaging 13.4 points per game and fellow senior Omara Parker, who is adding 11.6 points. Freshman Tracey Carrington is contributing 7.6 points and a team-high 5.5 rebounds per contest.
DOG BITES: N.C. A&T (7-10, 2-2 MEAC) losers of two straight, are coming off a 65-57 loss at Howard (1/14). JaQuayla Berry came off the bench and scored a team-high 13 points and tied game high honors with seven rebounds, while Tiffanie Adair and Tracy King finished with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Berry leads three Lady Aggies in double figures scoring with a team-high 13.5 points and is the team's leading rebounder with 6.5 rebounds per game. King is averaging 13.5 points, while Amber Calvin is scoring 11.5 points per game. Bowie, Md. native Nikia Gorham ranks second on the team in rebounding with 6.1 boards to go with 7.6 points per game.
MORGAN VS. N.C. A&T SERIES NOTES: Morgan State has won the last three contests, including last season's home-and-home sweep, but still trails the all-time series with the Lady Aggies, 32-20. N.C. A&T's last victory over Morgan State was a 67-56 home win in Greensboro (2/1/10).
