NORFOLK, Va. - In the annual Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) preseason football media poll, Morgan State was tabbed to finish fifth in the preseason poll selected by head football coaches and sports information directors, as announced by the league on Friday afternoon at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott.
For the fourth consecutive year, the defending MEAC champion Bulldogs of South Carolina State are favored to win the 2010 MEAC title. The Bulldogs earned 15 first-place votes and 315 points and led the preseason All-MEAC team with 13 selections. Florida A&M received two first-place votes and received 268 points.
Norfolk State (190 pts.), Hampton (167), Morgan State (166), North Carolina A&T (150), Delaware State (120), Bethune-Cookman (68) and Howard (32) round out the remainder of the preseason poll.
The Bears, who posted a 6-5 mark and 4-4 conference record, had three players named to the preseason All-MEAC first team and one named to the second team . Senior offensive lineman Lawrence Brewer was selected to the second team.
Morgan State kicks off the 2010 season at home against the Bowie State Bulldogs on Saturday, September 4th, at 6 p.m.
