Morgan State Completes Final Preseason Scrimmage

BALTIMORE, Md.-- The Morgan State Bears survived their preseason finale injury-free and are ready -- finally -- to focus on the season opener in a week against the Akron Zips.

Senior quarterback Carlton Jackson looked decisive and completed 4-of-5 passes and threw a 34-yard touchdown pass to wideout Trey Charles in his strongest performance this preseason, as the Bears' offense scored five touchdowns on Thursday night at Hughes Stadium.

Despite two touchdowns being called back for holding penalties, the offense had a much better performance than in their previous two preseason games.

Donovan Dickerson finished the game by completing 5-for-13 passes for 61 yards, including a 48 yard touchdown pass to Chris Burley. Dickerson also threw two interceptions. Jahmeal Quarels-Belt went 1-for 3, while Delonte Williams also played one series (1-5) and completed a 48-yard touchdown pass to Chris Flowers.

Nicholas Adams punted seven times and averaged 45 yards per punt, including a long of 60 yards.
The scrimmage was capped by a newcomer Brian Mann. The running back turned a handoff up the middle into a 76-yard touchdown run. Mann finished the scrimmage with eight carries for 106 yards (13.2 avg).

Cameron George ran for 73 yards on six carries, while Allen Singletary had an electric 77-yard kickoff return to help setup an 8-yard touchdown run by All-MEAC running back Devan James.
The Bears defense was led by linebacker Larry Bailey who finished with seven tackles. Gelman King and Lafredo Brady each had interceptions, while the Bears defense collected three fumbles on the night.  James Cole led the defense in the trenches with two sacks, while Sheldon Jacques and Brian Saunders added a sack apiece.
