PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (Sept. 19, 2009)-For the second week in a row the top two performers for the Lady Bears were freshmen Ashlee Nievess (20:17.11) and Jasmine Savage (21:34.60), who placed 34th and 40th, respectively, to help the team to an eighth-place finish (180 points) during Saturday morning's Cappy Anderson Invitational 5k race, hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
Nievess, who set a new season-best, improved on her previous time of 21:30.31 during last week's Towson Invite (9/12).
Penn State's Brooklyne Ridder captured the individual title in a time of 17:41.53. Princeton (20 points) claimed the team title, while Penn State (37 points) and UMBC (75 points) finished second and third, respectively. Fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) members Hampton (116 points) came in fourth.
The Lady Bears return to action next Saturday, Oct. 3 when they compete in the Towson Invitational in Towson, Md. at 4 p.m.
