Rhooms Wins Long Jump Title to Lead Bears at Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (April 7, 2018) --The Morgan State men's track and field team was back in action over the weekend, as the Bears took part in the 53rd annual Colonial Relays held a Zable Stadium on the campus of the College of William & Mary.

The Bears finished the three-day meet with a total of 26 points scored and finished tied for 14th with George Mason and Christopher Newport.

William & Mary won the men's title with a total of 74 points. Rhode Island placed second with 63 points and UMass Lowell scored 58 points to place third.

Freshman Kobe-Jordan Rhooms led the way for the Morgan State men's track and field team by capturing the long jump title. Rhooms was the lone Bear to capture an event in the meet, as he recorded a career leap of 7.14m (23-5.25). The jump also currently ranks 27^thin the nation.

Rhooms also posted a 10^thplace finish in the high jump with a leap of 1.95m (6-4.75).

Senior Desean White took third in the 100m dash with a time of 10.61 and placed fourth in the 200m dash with a season-best  mark of 21.23. He was also the first leg of the Bears' 4x100m relay team that finished in second place with a time of 43.17.

Other Highlights:
Sophomore Vikarie Elliott threw a 15.59m (51-1.75) to place fifth in the shot put, and placed eighth in the discus championship with a toss of 44.18m (144-11).

Freshman Joshua Smith added a seventh place toss of 41.48m (136-1) in the discus university section.

The Bears return to action next week when they travel to Greensboro, N.C. to compete at the Aggie Invitational hosted by North Carolina A&T State (April 13-14).
