Rhooms Captures Triple-Jump Title at Duke Invitational

DURHAM, N.C.-- The Morgan State men's track and field team finished the regular season portion of the spring this weekend at the Duke Invitational, with six individual top-5 performances and one individual title.

The Duke Invitational finished up on Saturday evening with more than 1,300 athletes and 2,000 entries throughout the two days.

Freshman sensation Kobe-Jordan Rhooms continued his strong spring by capturing the triple-jump with a personal-best mark of 15.12m-- his previous high was 14.85m. Rhooms also added a fifth place finish in the long jump by soaring to a leap of 7.01m.

MSU's 4x400m relay squad of freshman Ilkeem Ellis, senior Stephen Varella, senior Fernandes Boyd and senior Desean White placed third in 3:11.75. They now own the third fastest time the MEAC season, behind N.C. A&T (3:07.23) and Hampton (3:08.05).

White raced to a time of 10.77 to finish fifth in the 100m finals, and placed seventh in the 200m dash with a 21.48, just behind freshman teammate Keon Rantin who raced to a time of 21.31 to finish in fourth place.

Freshman thrower Joshua Smith finished in eighth place in the discus with a personal best toss of 46.87m. Daenah Pressley also had a solid showing for the Bears as the sophomore recorded a fourth place finish in the high jump with a 1.96m.

Morgan State will have one more weekend of competition prior to the MEAC Championships. The Bears will travel to the Penn Relays starting on Thursday, April 26.
