White Leads Bears At Towson Invitational

Morgan State records five individual wins

TOWSON, Md. (April 14, 2018) – The Morgan State University men's track and field team had a productive outing by posting a few event victories during the Towson Invitational on Saturday, April 14.

The Bears tallied five individual wins and 13 top-5 performances in an invitational field that included teams from Coppin State, Lincoln (Pa.),  Delaware State, Maryland Eastern Shore,  Johns Hopkins, Stevenson, Christopher Newport, Montgomery College, Immaculata, Mary Washington, Salisbury, Goldey Beacom, Prince George's CC, Essex CC, Oneonta, Loyola (Md.) and Catholic.
 
Senior sprinter Desean White had a standout performance, winning the 100m dash over Coppin State's Keshaun Hodges by .12 seconds in a time of 10.52 seconds.  He also captured the 200m title with a personal best time of 21.17, once again beating out Hodges at the tape, then joined senior Kevin Leach, senior Lloyd Hylton and freshman Keon Rantin to earn a first place finish in the 4x100m relay with a mark of 41.21 seconds. 

Rantin captured the 400m dash place with a time of 48.16, while fellow freshman teammate Ilkeem Ellis placed sixth (49.20). 
 
Senior Devon Hairston placed sixth in the 110m hurdles by clocking in a time of 15.29, and freshman Burnell Pulley ran a 56.25 to place seventh in the 400m hurdles.

MSU's 4x400m relay squad of Ellis, Leach, Pulley and senior Fernandes Boyd  placed second in 3:16.58, behind Delaware State's 3:14.44.

The Bears also continued to excel in the field events. 

Freshman Kobe-Jordan Rhooms won the triple-jump with a personal best jump of 14.85 and was runner-up in the high jump with a measurement of 2.00-meters (6-6.75), while sophomore Daenah Pressley finished third with a mark of 1.96m (6-5).  Hylton placed first in the long jump by beating the field with a leap of 7.40-meters (24-3.5). 
 
Sophomore Kurt Goodlitt took second place in the shot put with a toss of 14.65-meters (48-0.75) and placed third in the discus with a personal best throw of 47.75-meters (156-8). Teammates freshmen Vikarie Elliott and Joshua Smith placed fifth (46.60m) and sixth (44.28m), respectively in the discus.  
 
The Bears return to action next week when they travel to Durham, N.C. to compete at the Duke Invitational on April 20-21 at Morris Williams Track & Field Stadium.
