BALTIMORE, Md. (April 12, 2018)-The Morgan State women's tennis team quickly took care of crosstown and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) foe Coppin State by a score of 4-0 in a MEAC Northern Division contest at the MSU Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon.

Morgan State (7-11, 3-1 MEAC) picked up its second straight victory, while improving to 1-1 at home this season. Coppin State dropped to 3-8 overall and 1-2 in the MEAC.

Behind the play of sophomore Dana Santiago and junior Oriane Yehouenou, the duo defeated the Lady Eagles' No. 2 doubles team of Shariah Dunwell and Precious Udofe by a score of 6-2 to get things started. Senior Danielle Thompson and sophomore Peggy Rooke teamed up to defeat Coppin State's Brittanie Cahua and Tinashe Gwaze in a No. 1 doubles match, 6-1 to give the Lady Bears the doubles point and the early 1-0 lead.

Rooke then won her No. 3 singles match in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 over Dunwell to give the host Lady Bears a 2-0 lead.

Thompson, who earlier in the day was named MEAC Player of the Week, disposed of Gwaze 6-2, 6-0 to increase the Morgan State lead to 3-0.

Alexus Gill then sealed the deal with her 6-1, 6-0 victory over Cahua at No. 2 singles for the 4-0 shutout win.

"It's a good win for the ladies. It definitely helps our positioning for heading to the conference tournament," said Morgan State head coach Matthew Townes. "We have one more challenge remaining and we get to work on that tomorrow."

The Lady Bears close out their brief home slate on Saturday, April 14 with their third and final home contest of the season, when they welcome Hofstra for a non-conference match. First serve is at 1 p.m. and will mark Senior Day and the final home match for Danielle Thompson.
