BALTIMORE, Md. (April 11, 2018) -- Morgan State men's tennis took the court Wednesday afternoon and wasted little time in dismantling Coppin State. The Bears beat their cross-town rivals, 4-0, to draw closer to winning their seventh straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) North Division title.
Morgan State improved its record to 10-4 overall and 3-0 in conference action, while the Eagles fell to 1-8 overall (0-2 MEAC).
From the start, the Bears set a strong precedent in doubles play that carried over to their singles matches.
The pairing of sophomore
Nihit Rawal and freshman Serhii Kharcev easily dispatched Gabriel Franca and Andres Diaz, 6-1, while the veteran duo of senior
Lucas Krusinski and junior
Arjun Ramakrishnan followed suit, beating Igor de Sousa and Zaipo Oula by the same score.
When it came to singles, the Bears didn't show any signs of slowing down. Morgan State clinched the overall match, 4-0, as Krusinski and freshmen
Shrey Gupta and
Sebastian Lopez secured singles wins — all finishing in dominating fashion.
"I'm happy we got through the match without incident and remained undefeated at home," said MSU coach
Matthew Townes. "It was a good win."
Facing a quick turnaround, Morgan State will look to have a similar performance Saturday in non-conference play at home against Hofstra. First serve is set for 1 p.m. at the MSU Tennis Courts.
