DURHAM, N.C. -- The Morgan State men's tennis team (5-4) maintained its undefeated streak in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play with a 5-2 victory on the road at North Carolina Central (2-10) Friday afternoon at the NCCU Tennis Courts.
The Bears earned their fourth straight match while the Eagles were unable to win a third consecutive contest.
Gabriel Cucalon notched his singles win over the reigning MEAC Rookie of the Week in freshman
Shrey Gupta. Cucalon won 6-3, 6-2 from the second court.
Theofanis Kontopoulos picked up the Eagles other win atop NCCU's lineup with a 6-2, 6-4 conquest of senior
Lucas Krusinski, who is the reigning MEAC Player of the Week.
Pablo Juez Torres had NCCU's next best chance at a team point in a narrow 6-3, 5-7, 10-5 loss to freshman No. 6
Serhii Kharchev.
The Bears won the other three singles matches in straight sets to claim the team victory.
Sebastian Lopez won 6-3, 6-3 against Sebastian Bromley at No. 3, Ogukhan Ceylan topped Maksym Knovalov 6-4 6-3 at No. 4, and
Nihit Rawal surrendered just a single set during a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Brooks Campbell at No. 6.
MSU prevailed on the end courts of doubles to secure the opening point. Krusinski and Kharcez partnered for a 6-2 victory over Brooks Campbell and Pablo Juez Torress.
MSU will continue its current road swing with a non-conference matchup on Sunday against the Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, Md. The match is set to begin at noon.
