Bears Solid at 10th Annual Wesley Brown Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Morgan State men's track and field team registered a solid outing at the 10th Annual Wesley Brown Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Wesley A. Brown Field House. The Bears competed against Maryland Eastern Shore, Maryland, Bowie State, Wesley and host Navy.

Top performances on the day include a first place finishes in the 60-meter dash and the 400-meter dash.

Seniors Deyvon Howell and Desean White crossed the finish line 1-2 in the 60-meter dash. Howell recorded a time of 6.80, while White turned in a 6.84.

The 200-meter dash featured Olympian Devon Allen running independently. Allen claimed first place by clocking in a time of 20.94, while Howell also posted a second place finish with a 21.39, and freshman teammate Keon Rantin finished third with a time of 21.57.

Senior Fernandes Boyd captured the 400-meters dash with a 49.39, beating out senior Kevin Leach (49.74) at the tape.

The Bears 4x400-meter relay team (Desean White, Stephen Varella, Fernandes Boyd, Caniggia Harriott) finished as runners-up with a 3:22.17, while Maryland Eastern Shore posted a first place time of 3:21.03.

In the field events, freshman Kobe-Jordan Rhooms finished second in the high jump with a leap of 1.99m (6-06.25) and freshman Daenah Pressley was fourth with a 1.94m (6-04.25). Sophomore Kurt Goodlitt recorded a seventh place finish with a 5.95m (19-06.25).

In the throws, sophomore Vikarie Elliott was fifth in the shot put with a 14.96m (49-01.00). Elliott also came in eighth with a throw of 14.62m (47-11.75)in the weight throw.

Morgan State will compete at the Bruce Lehane Scarlett & White Invite next Saturday in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The meet is hosted by Boston University.
