Bears Post Strong Performances at Terrapin Invite, Capture Men's Title

LANDOVER, Md. -- Backed by four first place finishes, the Morgan State men's indoor track & field team captured the team title at the Terrapin Invitational held Saturday at the Prince George's County Sports Complex in Landover, Md.

Morgan State finished with a team total of 93 points, while Navy (85) and Division III Johns Hopkins (70) finished second and third, respectively. Division II Virginia State posted a team total of 68 points to place fourth, while host Maryland finished with 49 points to place fifth.

Deyvon Howell was a standout for the Bears, finishing the 60-meter dash finals in first place with a personal best time of 6.80. Desean White finished third with a time of 6.84.

Howell followed up his performance by taking first place in the 200-meter dash with a personal best time of 21.79. The Bears swept the event with White finishing second with a 21.85, and teammates Keon Rantin and Kevin Leach crossing the line in third and fourth place, respectively by clocking in at 21.85.

The Bears also had a solid performance in the 400-meter dash as Kevin Leach posted a second place finish with a 50.83, while Burnell Pulley third place (50.87) and Fernandes Boyd placed fourth (50.87).

Devon Hairston competed in the 60-meter hurdles with a sixth place performance of 8.44.

Morgan State's quartet of Kevin Leach, Deyvon Howell Ilkeem Ellis and Keon Rantin won the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 3:16.16.

Lloyd Hylton captured the long jump at with a winning distance of 7.18 meters.

Morgan State will return to action next Saturday when the Bears head to the Wesley Brown Invitational hosted by the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
