Morgan State Men Win Inaugural HBCU Battle at the Track

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Morgan State men's track and field team ended up taking the team title in the inaugural Historically Black Colleges & Universities Battle in New York, New York. The meet was held on Friday at New Balance Track and Field Center.

MSU's 79 points outdistanced Claflin's 64 points in the men's competition with Benedict in third with 52 and Maryland Eastern Shore and Virginia Union tied for fourth with 50 points each.

Highlights of the meet for the Bears included senior Desean White winning both the 60-meter and 200-meter, lowering his personal bests in both events to 6.76 seconds and 21.54 seconds.

Senior Deyvon Howell also equaled his personal best in the 60-meter by clocking in with a 6.83, and recorded a personal best 48.16 in the 400-meter.

Freshman Keon Rantin recorded a fourth place finish in the 400-meter with a personal best time of 48.11.

The quartet of Burnell Pulley, Keon Rantin, Ilkeem Ellis, and Deyvon Howell won the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 3:18.59.

Sophomore Vikarie Elliott ran away with the shot put with a toss of 15.48 meters, and Lloyd Hylton captured the long jump with a leap of 7.34 meters.

The Bears will travel to Landover, Md., to compete in the Terrapins Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 20.
