BALTIMORE, Md. (April 10, 2017)-The Morgan State Lady Bears tennis team defeated rival Howard, 4-3 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division match on Saturday afternoon at the MSU Tennis Courts.
Â
The victory marked the first win for Morgan State over Howard since a 4-0 victory in Washington, D.C. during the 2013 season.
Â
Morgan State (5-15, 2-1 MEAC), which had to battle with injuries, bounced back after dropping the doubles point to defeat the Lady Bison in four out of the six singles matches for the win.
Â
"We were able to face and conquer so much adversity today," said Morgan State head coach Matt Townes. "We had two players go down with injury and were still able to pull a victory from a team that has nagged us over the past two seasons. Our ladies showed growth, resilience, confidence and poise when their team needed them the most. We are happy about the bounce back in the conference and looking forward to finishing out strong."
Â
After dropping all three doubles matches by default to lose the doubles' point, the Lady Bears (5-15, 2-1 MEAC) earned victories at the No. 2-No. 5 singles positions for the one-point victory.
Â
Morgan State is back in action on Thursday, April 13 when they visit crosstown foe Coppin State.
