Morgan State 2013 Spring Football - Morgan State University Athletics

BALTIMORE, Md. – Head coach Donald Hill-Eley and staff will take to the practice fields with their players Monday, March 25 for the official start of the 2013 Morgan State football spring drills.

The 2013 spring drills – 15 practices, including the Blue-Orange Spring Game April 18 – kick off a couple of historic notes for the football program, which will play its 115th seasons this fall:

1. The practice will mark the first opportunity for Hill and his staff to work on football drills and skills after spending the winter by seeing only conditioning and training exercises.

2. Spring drills also signify the start of Donald-Hill Eley's 12th season as Morgan State's head coach.

What Hill will, or will not see, in terms of numbers when he assembles his players on the practice field this spring will be:

» A senior class comprised of 13 individuals;

» 52 lettermen returning off the 2012 team (23 offense, 28 on defense and 1 specialists);

» 21 departed lettermen (12 on offense, 7 on defense and two specialists);

» 11 returning starters, including 7 on defense (CB Joe Rankin, CB Deshaun Summers, SS Nathan Ayers, FS Darien Irby, LB Cody Acker, DL Damarco Bisbee, DL Christopher Robinson); 4 on offense (QB Robert Council, WR Chris Flowers, WR Andrew King, OL Karim Barton, OL Clarence Swain).

» The kicking duties will be handled by either Miguel Bernard or Lawrence Forbes.

» 14 departed starters, including offensive linemen Joshua Durden, Jerry Evans and Taylor Pass, tight end and Kristian Johnson, and running back Travis Davidson, and wideout Tyrone Hendrix. Defensive starters gone are defensive linemen Bakari Smith,and Richard Ndubueze, and linebackers Elandon Roberts, Allen Stephens, and Calvin Fuller, and safety Jerry Jones. Kicker Earvin Gonzalez and long-snapper Robert Miranda have also departed.

Practice Dates: The Bears will practice on the following dates: March 25, 26, 28 and 29, and April 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 11, 13, 15 and 16.

Spring Game: The 2013 Blue-Orange Spring Game will be played April 21 in Hughes Stadium. The controlled scrimmage is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
