PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- Tonight Morgan State was on the wrong side of history.

Justin Black grabbed a long rebound and raced coast to coast for a layup and was fouled by Mark Robertson with 11.7 seconds left. Black's free throw gave the Bears a 57-56 lead.  On the ensuing possession, Woods penetrated the lane and was fouled with 8.9 second remaining. Woods stepped up and hit both free throws to help seal a 58-57 win Saturday night for MD-Eastern Shore's Homecoming.

MSU's last shot attempt by Black ended up rimming out as UMES fans flooded the floor in excitement.

It was the first time since the 2001-02 season the Bears have been swept by MD-Eastern Shore.

Mark Robertson scored a career-high 22 points, including 7 of 13 3-pointers, to lead the Hawks (7-20, 4-10 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who held a 45-39 advantage on the boards and then turned away every rally after halftime to hold on.

The Bears (7-19, 4-10 MEAC) had four players score in double-figures. Aric Brooks and Ian Chiles scored 11 points apiece and Kevin Thompson added 10 and Ameer Ali recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

UMES led for all but about five minutes, yet needed to play defense until the horn sounded to win and snap the Bears' two-game win streak.

The Bears mounted a 6-1 run during the early going of the second half and Ian Chiles' jump hook gave the Bears its largest lead of the game at 39-36, it marked the Bears' first lead since it was 7-5.

Thompson tied the game at 45 apiece, but Robertson answered by hitting back to back 3-pointers to extend the Hawks leads to 51-45 with 8:51 remaining.

Ali scored on a putback to trim the lead to 51-49 at the 5:09 mark, but again Robertson answered this time with his seventh 3-pointer of the game (54-49).

The Bears trailed by as many as many as 7 points in the first half, before outscoring the Hawks 10-4 in the final minutes. Haley hit a fadeaway jumper from the corner just before the buzzer to give UMES a 29-25 halftime lead.

MSU struggled from the free throw line the entire game as they shot just 2 of 19 (47 percent) from the free throw line and was just 2 of 19 (10 percent) from 3-point territory.

Both teams combined for 12 of 44 shooting from beyond the arc, over half of the points were scored from 3-point territory.
