Roberts Earns Third Rookie of the Week Honor

BALTIMORE, Md. – Morgan State freshman linebacker Elandon Roberts has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Roberts joins Howard's Terrence Leffall and Keith Pough who were selected as this week's Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honorees, respectively. Teammates Corey Gwinner and John Fleck, also of Howard, were named Offensive Lineman Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively.

The announcement marks the third weekly accolade of Robert's first year donning the Blue & Orange. He was previously selected as MEAC Rookie of the Week on Sept. 10th and on Oct. 1st.

Roberts completed the regular season as the only freshman in the MEAC to take home the weekly honor more than once this season and he was recently added to the 2012 Jerry Rice Watch List.  The selection puts Roberts among the top freshman players in the country, adding further recognition to the linebacker's outstanding first season.

The Port Arthur, Texas, native was selected Rookie of the Week for the third time this year after he notched a season-high 19 tackles last Saturday in the Bears season finale against Hampton.

The young linebacker also added 1.5 tackles for a loss and one sack for a six-yard loss, in addition to one breakup and one quarterback hurry

For the season, Roberts ranked No. 2 in the MEAC with 107 total tackles (9.7 avg), to go along with 8.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
