Gonzalez and Davidson Receive CFPA Honorable Mention Accolades

BALTIMORE, MD. – Two members of the Morgan State football program, punter Earvin Gonzalez and runningback Travis Davidson, were acknowledged for their individual performances against North Carolina Central on Oct. 13. Gonzalez and Davidson received honorable mention accolades by the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) as Punter and All-Purpose Player of the Week, respectively, which was announced Monday.

Gonzalez, a product of Visalia (Calif.), continues his domination as Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's top kicker. Last Saturday against the Eagles, the senior connected on 2-of-2 point after attempts, and he also punted five times (36.6 avg), including a 40-yarder and one inside the 20.

Additionally, he was 2-of-2 in field goals with a career-high 47-yarder in the first quarter and a 34-yard field goal in the 4th quarter.

Gonzalez currently leads the league in field goals (10-14 FG) and PAT kicking (18-18 PATs), ranks No. 1 in field goal percentage (71.4 pct) and is No. 5 in punting (38.9 avg).

Davidson, a senior from Redford, Mich., rushed for two touchdowns and gained 105 yards on the ground against NCCU. Despite facing the league's No. 1 ranked rush defense, “Juice” still managed to finish with touchdown runs of 5 and 7-yards and recorded his fourth 100-yard performance of the season (6th of his career). He accounted for 165 of the Bears' 258 total yards of offense.

“Juice” has increased his career touchdown mark to 17 and needs just 101 more rushing yards to surpass James Fields at No. 10 on the school's all-time rushing list. He will enter the Howard game with 1,351 career rushing yards.

Davidson currently leads the Bears with 11 receptions for 157 yards (14.3 avg) and a touchdown in six games played.

Morgan State (3-2, 1-1 MEAC) takes on Howard (4-2, 3-1) this Saturday at 1 p.m. during the Bison's Homecoming at Greene Stadium. The game will be broadcast live by WEAA, 88.9 FM. The Bison will enter the contest coming off a 38-10 loss at North Carolina A&T.
