BOWIE, Md. (Jan. 23, 2012)-The Morgan State bowling team returned to action for the first time in 2012 as it competed over the weekend in the Bowie State Lady Bulldogs Invitational.
The Lady Bears, who entered the competition as the defending 2011 Bowie State Invitational champions, would again have an outstanding showing, this time finishing in second.
Morgan State (37-38) came out on fire in the opening day, going 5-1 on the day. The Lady Bears defeated Virginia State (1031-743) and Bowie State (1008-815), before suffering their first loss of the day to Norfolk State (928-943). Morgan State then concluded the day with victories over North Carolina Central (890-791), Elizabeth City State (815-736) and Lincoln-Pa. (840-596).
On Day 2, the Lady Bears went 7-2, with both losses again coming against Norfolk State. After dropping the first match to Norfolk State (732-858), Morgan defeated North Carolina Central (1196-1005), before falling again to the Spartans (1075-1091).
Morgan State then ran off six straight wins to end the tournament. The Lady Bears defeated Saint Peter's (747-674), Chowan (755-585), Salem International (724-522), Penn State-Altoona (704-686), Howard (674-636) and Virginia Union (784-576).
Senior Keisheena Waldon led Morgan State with a total of 1,250 pins for an average of 208.3. Waldon, who was named to the all-tournament team, had a high game of 260 against Virginia State.
