NEWARK, Del. (Oct. 18, 2011)-Morgan State junior Christian Smooth placed 13th overall in Saturday's Delaware Blue & Gold Invitational, completing the 8k run in a time of 28:12.25. As a team, the Bears placed sixth overall with 157 points.
Fellow runners Tyree Smith crossed the line 27th in scoring with a time of 29:30.42, while Kennedy Ikwubuo (38th scoring/37:26.30), Wesley Redfearn (39th scoring/37:46.67) and Calvin Dascent (40th scoring/40:13.53) all placed in the top 40 in Saturday's event.
The University of Maryland captured the team title with a total of 26 points. Andy Weaver of Delaware TC won the individual title in a winning time of 28:58.65.
Morgan State will take a week off as it prepares for the 2011 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men's and women's cross country championships on Saturday, Oct. 29 in Princess Anne, Md. on the campus of Maryland Eastern Shore. The women's race will get underway at 9:45 a.m., while the men's race takes place at 10:30 a.m.
