COCKEYSVILLE, Md. (Sept. 3, 2010)-The Morgan State men's cross country team opened up their 2010 season on Friday afternoon in the 28th annual Baltimore Metro Cross Country Meet, hosted by Towson University at Oregon Ridge Park and placed second overall with a total of 86 points.
Morgan State, which last year also finished second in the 5K race to set a school record for highest finish ever at the Baltimore Metro Meet, was led by sophomore transfer Christian Smooth, who placed 11th overall out of 59 competitors. Smooth, who just missed out on reaching the medal stand by one place, ran a time of 16:57.22.
Freshman Tyree Smith, senior Issac Richardson and freshman Imani Kelley crossed the line in a pack, finishing 22nd, 23rd and 24th, respectively. Deandre Robinson rounded out the scoring for Morgan State, placing 46th overall.
Johns Hopkins captured its second straight men's title with a total of 20 points, by placing runners in the 2-9 spots in the top 10. Goucher, which placed third with a total of 88 points, was led by Joey Negreann, who claimed the individual title in a time of 16:07.64, while McDaniel (102) finished fourth. Stevenson came in fifth with 111 points and fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foe Coppin State finished sixth with 116 points.
The Bears return to action next Saturday, Sept. 11, when they take part in the Delaware State Invitational in Dover, Del.
