Men’s Track & Field Places Third at Delaware State Invitational

BALTIMORE, Md. (May 3, 2010)-The Morgan State men's track and field team placed third at the Delaware State Invitational held on Saturday, May 1 in Dover, Del., capping off what was a busy yet successful 48 hours.

 

Morgan State finished with 57 points, while Maryland Eastern Shore took second with 76 points and host Delaware State won the meet with 139 points. It was the second consecutive third-place finish for the Bears, who competed in two meets in three days.

 

On Thursday, the Bears also came in third-place behind second-place Coppin State and winner Delaware State, as they competed at the Coppin State Eagle Twilight Meet.

 

On Saturday the men performed extraordinarily well, as Morgan State had 11 top 10 finishers, including two individuals who notched season bests.

 

Mikel McClain captured Morgan State's lone first-place victory, winning the discus with a throw of 103-04. McClain also placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 36-05.00.

 

Kevin Bowen ran a season-best and IC4A qualifying time of 21.07 in the 200 meter dash to place second and then joined Ryan Currie, Trey Charles and Carbinere Whyte to run a leg on the 4X400 meter relay team, which placed second in a time of 41.93.

 

Jordan Higgs was clocked at a time of 48.56 in the 400 meter dash to place second, while Charles placed fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 52.66.

 

Issac Richardson ran a season-best and IC4A qualifying time of 1:52.88, good for third in the 800 meter run. Deandre Robinson finished 10th in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:56.47.

 

The Bears will now get ready for the upcoming Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) championships, which are set for Thursday, May 6-Saturday, May 8 in Greensboro, N.C. on the campus of North Carolina A&T.
