Allison Randall placed 6th in the discus at the NCAA East Regional to advance to the NCAA National Championship in Eugene, Oregon June 9-12.
GREENSBORO, N.C. (May 31, 2010)-Morgan State sophomore Trey Charles and senior Allison Randall are heading to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championship, following their outstanding performances over the weekend at the NCAA East Regional Preliminary Championships hosted by North Carolina A&T State University at Irwin Belk Track.
Morgan State, who sent a total of five men and women competitors, all performed well over the weekend, but it was Charles and Randall, who both finished sixth overall in their events to advance to the national championships held Wednesday, June 9-Saturday, June 12 in Eugene, Oregon.
Charles' road to the championship, began when he placed 15th in the preliminaries of the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 51.77 to advance to the semifinals. Charles then ran a time of 50.32 to place seventh in the semifinals to move on to the finals, where he placed sixth overall in the NCAA East Region with a time of 50.36.
Randall reached the national championships when she placed sixth overall in the NCAA East Regional in the discus with a throw of 172-09 to claim her spot for an opportunity for a national title.
Other Morgan State athletes that competed were Kevin Bowen (400 meter dash) and Tanisha Kendrick and Avionne Sloan, who both competed in the 400 meter dash.
Bowen placed sixth in the preliminaries with a time of 45.92 to advance to the semifinals. He then set a personal record time of 46.28 in the semifinals and placed 15th overall, just missing on advancing to the finals.
Kendrick finished 27th overall in the preliminaries of the 400 meter dash, while Sloan finished 41st in a time of 55.49 to place within the top 50.
