Bowen, Charles Each Place Second at IC4A Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. (May 17, 2010)-The 2010 IC4A Outdoor Track & Field Championships wrapped up on Sunday at Weaver Stadium on the campus of Princeton University.

 

Morgan State scored 16 points and finished tied for 18th with Syracuse and Villanova out of 55 teams. Connecticut captured the title with 64 points. Fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) foes, Hampton (35 points) and Maryland Eastern Shore (33 points) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

 

Kevin Bowen and Trey Charles both ran season best times in the preliminaries and tallied second-place finishes in their respective events to account for the Bears' only points of the meet.

 

Bowen set his season best time in the 400 meter dash during the preliminaries in a time of 46.30 to rank him in the top 20 in the East Region. Bowen finished the second in the finals with a time of 46.50, falling short to fellow MEAC runner, Allodi Fothergill of Maryland Eastern Shore, who won the race in a time of 46.45 seconds.

 

Charles ran a season-best time of 51.24 during the preliminaries of the 400 meter hurdles. Charles' time, which was the fastest during the preliminary round, just beat out Virginia's Steve Delice (51.25) and ranked him 16th in the nation. However, Charles would run a time of 51.35 in the finals of the 400 meter hurdles, while Delice would capture the title in a time of 51.17.

 

The 4X400 meter relay team of Jordan Higgs and Carbinere Whyte along with Charles and Bowen, finished 10th in the preliminary round with a time of 3:11.77.

 

Whyte placed 18th in the preliminaries of the 200 meter dash in a time of 21.74, while Bowen finished 28th, running in a time of 22.22. Whyte also finished 27th in the preliminary round of the 100 meter dash in a time of 10.92.

 

The NCAA will announce the final list of those competing in the East Regional on Monday, May 17 at 9 p.m.
