GREENSBORO, N.C. (May 6, 2010)-The 2010 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men's and women's outdoor track and field championships got underway on Thursday at Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T with the men's and women's 5,000m and the heptathlon and decathlon.
Morgan State's Micsha Carson currently is in ninth place in the heptathlon after four events scored with 2704 points. Carson placed second in shot put with a throw of 34-11.00 and finished fifth in 100 hurdles with a time of 14.65.
The reigning MEAC champion Hampton Lady Pirates took the lead heading into day two with 15 points. Norfolk State finished second with 15 points, followed by South Carolina State in third place with five points. Maryland Eastern Shore was the only other team to score points on day one, finishing in fourth with three.
The MEAC championships continue Friday at 10 a.m. with the final events in the women's heptathlon and the men's decathlon. Other field events for day two include the men's and women's long jump, the women's shot put, women's pole vault, men's discus and men's high jump. The afternoon continues on the track with the men's 110m hurdles and women's 100m hurdles beginning at 1:50 p.m. Other running events include the 100m, 200m, 400m and 400m hurdles.
Admission for the 2010 MEAC Outdoor Track and Field championships is free.
