BALTIMORE, Md. (April 23, 2010)-Morgan State head softball coach Jeff Bozier has announced the cancelation of the Lady Bears’ remaining non-conference games for the 2010 season.
With the cancelation of scheduled non-conference road games at Towson (4/27), Mount St. Mary’s (4/29) and the home finale against Colgate (5/10), the Lady Bears will now turn their sole focus on their remaining six contests against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) foes Howard and Delaware State.
Morgan State (7-20, 3-6 MEAC) is riding a season-long three-game winning streak following a series sweep at Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) on April 17-18, which ended an 18-game losing slide.
The Lady Bears, who have not played since the UMES series, will host current MEAC North Division leader, Howard (8-1 MEAC), next week in a three-game weekend series at Lois T. Murray Field. The series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday, May 1 and will conclude on Sunday, May 2. Saturday’s contest will mark Morgan’s “Pink Day” game to raise awareness of breast cancer.
Morgan State then closes out the season on the road against Delaware State (5/8-9) in Dover, Del. Last season the Lady Bears needed to win two out of three from Delaware State in order to make the MEAC Tournament. The two teams split Saturday’s doubleheader and Sunday’s game was rained out, which resulted in Morgan not advancing to the MEAC tournament.
This season the Lady Bears currently are in fifth-place, one game behind Coppin State (4-5 MEAC), which holds the fourth and final spot in the MEAC North Division to qualify for the MEAC Tournament. The Eagles hold the tie-breaker over Morgan State after sweeping the three-game series against Morgan State in the league opener (4/2-3).
