VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (March 17, 2010)-Morgan State bowler Keisheena Waldon was named to the All-Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference first team on Wednesday, as voted on by the conference’s head coaches and sports information directors.
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore swept the top regular season honors as junior Maria Rodriguez was named 2010 MEAC Player of the Year, Anggie Ramirez was named MEAC Rookie of the Year and head coach Sharon Brummell earned her fifth MEAC Coach of the Year award.
Waldon, who has led the Lady Bears to a 63-62 overall mark and a No. 20 ranking in the recent National Tenpins Coaches Association poll, has tallied a team-leading 11,117 total pins in 56 games played. Waldon is averaging a team-leading 198.5 pins per game and rolled a high game of 237 against rival Coppin State in the first MEAC North Division match of the season (11/7).
Joining Waldon on the All-MEAC first team was of Rodriguez, Paula Vilas and Martha Perez (Maryland Eastern Shore) and Angela Reynolds (Delaware State)
The All-MEAC second team consists of Kristina Frahm (Maryland Eastern Shore), Adriana Jaime and Kalyn Washburn (Delaware State), Jazmin Bingham (Florida A&M) and Sheila-Marie Smith (Norfolk State).
The 2010 MEAC Bowling Championship begins on Friday, March 19 at the Gate City Lanes in Greensboro, N.C. with the qualifying round. Play continues on Saturday with teams competing in a best-of-seven Baker series. The championship concludes on Sunday, March 21 beginning with the semifinal round at 9:50 a.m. and concluding with the championship final at 11:45 a.m.
