BALTIMORE, Md. – Morgan State’s Kevin Thompson was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Defensive Player of the Week, while teammate DeWayne Jackson earned Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

Norfolk State’s Michael Deloach was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week.

Thompson(F, 6-8, 235, So., Baltimore, Md.)collected his 15th double-double of the season with 12 rebounds along with 14 points against Florida A&M. He also recorded two blocks and two steals in the win. He also posted 20 boards, 10 points, three blocks and two steals against North Carolina A&T.  For the week he averaged 16.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and two steals to earn his seventh Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.

Thompson, a former Walbrook HS standout, currently ranks nationally No. 4 in rebounding (12.4) and is the Bears’ seconding leading scorer by averaging 13 points per game.

Jackson, a 6-foot-8 freshman, came off the bench to aid the Bears with a 2-0 record in conference play last week. He averaged 17.5 points and 5.0 rebounds. Jackson scored 25 points, with 6-of-9 shots from long distance, along with three boards, one assist and one steal in the Bear’s 94-68 win over Florida A&M. 

Jackson is Morgan State's 3rd leading scorer by averaging 11 points per game and he currently leads the league in 3-point percentage (.481). The Bowie product has been selected four times as the MEAC Rookie of the Week and is averaging 15.7 ppg in conference play.

Morgan State (17-7, 9-0), the 2009 MEAC champion, will face Bethune-Cookman tonight. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Hill Field House in Baltimore (Md.). The game will mark the 51st match-up between the teams. The Bears lead the series 29-21. The Bears have won five of the last six meetings, including the last four meetings.

Reggie Holmes (MSU) averaged 25.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and one steal to lead the Bears to a 2-0 mark last week.

Albert Abrahams (B-CU) recorded a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds in a 65-58 win over Coppin State.
Tim Burns (UMES) averaged 15.5 points, 3.0 assists and 2.4 rebounds in two conference losses last week.
Kevin Dukes (B-CU) connected on 6-of-9 shots with 17 points, two rebounds and one assist in a 74-48 win over Winston-Salem State.
Jason Flagler (SCSU) connected on 9-of-12 baskets to register 22 points with five rebounds, two assists and one steal in a win over Hampton.
Michael Freeman (Ham) posted a pair of double-double performances, averaging 17.5 points and 13.5 rebounds, to aid the Pirates to a 1-1 mark last week.
Hillary Haley (UMES) scored 21 points with five boards and one steal in a loss to Hampton.
Marques Oliver (DSU) pulled down 10 rebounds, with four points, two assists and two steals in a loss to North Carolina A&T.
CJ Reed (B-CU) feel one rebound shy of a double-double of 21 points and nine rebounds, in addition to five assists and two steals against Winston-Salem State.
Kyle O’Quinn (NSU) recorded back-to-back double-double performances, averaging 15.0 points and 11.5 rebounds, in wins over Coppin State and Maryland E. Shore.
Curtis White (How) scored 20 points with three rebounds, two steals and two assists in a loss to Winston-Salem State.
