Bowling Wraps Up MSU Bowling Invitational; Nebraska Captures 2nd Consecutive TItle

MSU Bowling Invitational Individual Results

 

PERRY HALL, Md. (Feb. 21, 2010)-The Lady Bears' bowling team hosted the seventh annual Morgan State Bowling Invitational Tournament this weekend at the Brunswick Lanes and finished 18th, winning four (4) matches, while losing five (5) on Saturday and Sunday, February 20-21, to raise their season's record to 52 wins and 48 losses.

 

Reigning 2009 champion, Nebraska, successfully defended its title, capturing this year's championship, while Fairleigh Dickinson finished second and Maryland Eastern Shore came in third.

 

On Saturday, in the traditional team games, the Lady Bears won three (3) matches and lost three (3). They lost to Bethune-Cookman (811-842), Florida A&M (747-818) and Maryland Eastern Shore (781-905). Morgan State's victories came against Howard (802-756), Hampton (837-802) and Virginia State in a baker match (621-559).

 

On Sunday, in Baker matches for total pins, they lost two (2) matches. They lost to Kutztown (558-657) and Norfolk State (661-671). In match play, best four (4) out of seven (7), they won one (1) match and lost one (1) match. In the first match, they defeated Howard four (4) games to three (3) and in the final match they lost to North Carolina A&T four (4) games to one (1).

 

The most outstanding performer for the Lady Bears was Keisheena Waldon, who placed 10th overall and was named to the all-tournament team. Waldon finished with a total of 947 pins for an average of 189 and had a high game of 212 against Florida A&M.

 

Nebraska's Cassie Leuthold captured the individual title with a total of 1,091 pins for an average of 218. Leuthold also bowled a high game of 254.   

 

The next competition for the Lady Bears will be the ECAC championship in Howell, NJ on March 6-7, 2010.
