BALTIMORE DUO RECEIVE MEAC TOP HONORS

NORFOLK, Va. – Morgan State's Kevin Thompson was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Defensive Player of the Week and Justin Black was named the Rookie Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.

Alexander Starling of Bethune-Cookman was named the Player of the Week.

Thompson, a 6-foot-9 forward, recorded seven rebounds, three blocks and two steals in the Bears win over the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Offensively he added 14 points in 25 minutes of play.

Thompson, the 2009-10 MEAC Defensive Player of the Year, continues to be one of the steadiest post players in the country and has recorded five double-doubles in eight games so far this season and is currently averaging 14 points per game and 9.4 rebounds.

Black was perfect from the floor (4-of-4) and behind the arc (2-of-2) to aid the Bears in the win over UMBC.  He registered 10 points with two rebounds and two assists in 19 minutes of play off of the bench.

The freshman guard is averaging a league-best 8.3 points per game and has scored in double-figures four times, including a 20 point effort against La Salle (Nov. 20).

Morgan State (4-4, 1-0), the 2010 MEAC champion, will play tonight against No. 5 ranked Syracuse (11-0) at the Carrier Dome. The game will mark the first meeting between the two teams. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast by ESPN3.
