MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Rob Robinson scored five of his game-high 23 points in the final minute to lift Robert Morris to a 78-75 win over Morgan State on Monday night at Sewall Center.
The Colonials (7-7) trailed 73-72 after two free throws by Morgan State's Ameer Ali with 1 minute left. Robinson then hit a jumper with 42 seconds to go and followed with a three-point play with 12 seconds remaining for a 77-73 lead.
Joe Davis pulled the Bears (8-6, 1-0 MEAC) within 77-75 on a layup with 6 seconds to play, and Morgan State fouled Dallas Green a second later.
Green made one of two free throws to seal the win.
Karon Abraham scored 17 points and Mezie Nwigwe added 14 for the Colonials in their third straight win.
Robinson added 11 rebounds as Robert Morris outrebounded the Bears 35-29.
Kevin Thompson scored 19 points with six rebounds, while Sean Thomas added a career-high 14 points and Ameer Ali had 10 boards for Morgan State.
The Colonials did a good defensive job on Reggie Holmes, the nation's No. 2 ranked scorer (24.8 ppg), who scored 4 of his 11 points in the first half.
Robert Morris held its largest lead of the game at 19-13 behind solid defense in the first 10 minutes, but then the Bears turned it on offensively.
Morgan State used an 8-0 spurt to take its first lead when Thomas hit a jumper to give his team a 21-19 advantage at the 7:42 mark.
Morgan State used a 10-0 run capped by a conventional 3-point play by Thomas to end the half with momentum and a 38-28 lead.
The Bears connected on 14-of-29 (48.3%) shots in the first half and finished the game by shooting 43.9 percent from the field and 40 percent (40%) from beyond the arc. Robert Morris shot 53.1 percent from the floor and made 21-of-27 (77.8%) free throws.
Morgan State will face non-conference opponent Baylor (11-1) on Wednesday night. The game will mark the 14th non-conference game of the season for the Bears. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Ferrell Center. The game will mark the first match-up between the teams.
