GREENSBORO, N.C. (May 3, 2009)-The Morgan State women’s track and field team concluded the final day of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Outdoor Championships with a 10th-place finish with 32 points on Saturday at North Carolina A&T’s Irwin Belk Track.
The Lady Bears, who have not finished lower than third or fourth in the league championships, since winning the title in 2005, were able to muster up 1.50 more points than last place Delaware State (30.50 points).
The Lady Pirates of Hampton continued their dominance, as they claimed their fourth consecutive MEAC outdoor title and seventh in the last eight years. Hampton finished with 119 points to hold off second-place Maryland Eastern Shore (109 points). Norfolk State (106 points) finished third, followed by North Carolina A&T (82 points) and Bethune-Cookman (70 points) to round out the top five.
Allison Randall placed second in the discus on Saturday with a toss of 145-00. Randall, whose runner-up finish was the highest over the weekend of any Lady Bear during the championships, also earned 2nd Team All-MEAC honors for her performance.
Avionne Sloan came in fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 55.64, while Tanisha Kendrick finished fifth in a time of 55.80. Jamia Robinson ran a time of 58.95 and placed eighth in the event.
Kamice Smalls finished the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:03.60, which was good for eighth-place. Smalls then joined Tendai Hill, Ashley Hines and Kendrick on the 4X100 meter relay team, which placed eighth overall in a time of 47.13.
Shalee Richardson also finished in the top 10 on Saturday, as the competed in the 3000 meter steeplechase and placed ninth in a time of 13:01.81.
