Lady Bears Place 14th at Music City Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March. 15, 2009)-The Lady Bears had another so-so weekend of bowling in the Music City Classic, as they placed 14th in a field of 23 teams. Morgan State, which went 5-10 over the weekend, raised its season record to 80-63.

 

On Friday, in the Baker format, the Lady Bears won two matches while losing four. Morgan State lost to North Carolina A&T (686-720), Vanderbilt (695-697), Arkansas State (649-722) and Nebraska (616-658). They defeated Winston-Salem State (635-590) and Minnesota-Mankato (745-698).

 

On Saturday, in the traditional team games, Morgan State won one match and lost five. The team lost to Southern (814-908), Jackson State (761-776), Florida A&M (859-900), Alabama A&M (809-934) and Central Missouri (886-938). Morgan’s lone win was against Grand Canton (837-815).

 

On Sunday in the bracket play, best four out of seven, the Lady Bears won two matches and lost one. Morgan State defeated both Jackson State and Florida A&M four games to three, while losing to Adelphi, two games to four.

 

The most outstanding individuals were Tylencia Selph who averaged 196 with a high game of 243 against Florida A&M. Selph would place eighth out of a field of 145 bowlers.

 

The next competition for the Lady Bears will be the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship in Greensboro, N.C. on Friday, March 20-Sunday, March 22, 2009.
