Three Lady Bears Take First And Set Meet Records at Navy Lidlifter Opener

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (December 2, 2009)-The Morgan State women's indoor track and field team began their 2009-10 season competing at the annual Navy Lidlifter Opener on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at the Wesley A. Brown Field House. The Lady Bears had a successful outing with three first-place finishers.

 

Seniors Avionne Sloan and Allison Randall each earned first-place victories in their respective events. Randall placed first in the weight throw and shot put (13.66m) events and qualified for the ECAC Indoor Championship in both events. Randall's toss of 17.84m in the weigth throw set a new school and Navy Meet record. Sloan, who claimed victory in the 400 meter dash and set a meet record, was also followed by junior Tanisha Kendrick who placed second. Sophomore Micsha Carson also placed first in the long jump event, setting a meet record with a jump of 5.64m.

 

The Lady Bears' 4X400 meter relay team 'A' of seniors Jamia Robinson, Avionne Sloan and fellow teammates, junior Tanisha Kendrick and sophomore Kamice Smalls placed fourth with a time of 4:05.15. Lady Bears relay team 'B' with senior Vivian McCollum, sophomores Lauren Campbell, Tyshia Oliver and Britney Wattley placed seventh with a time of 4:22.10.

 

Other Lady Bears to have outstanding performances were senior Ashley Hines, who ran a time of 7.83 seconds to place second in the 60 meter dash and senior Jamia Robinson, who took a fourth-place finish in the 200 meter run. Senior Vivian McCollum (2:36.03) and freshmen Ashlee Neivess (11:49.3) placed 9th and 11th in their events as well.

 

The Lady Bears will return to action this Saturday, December 5, 2009 at the Bucknell Invite in Lewisburg, Pa. at 2 p.m.
