Lady Bears to Host Delaware State on Senior Night

BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 5, 2009)-The Morgan State volleyball team will close out its 2009 home slate this Friday evening when it plays host to Delaware State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) North Division match at Hill Field House. The match will also be ‘Senior Night’ for four-year players, Ivanti Bush and Hilary Tutman, who will be playing their final home match in the friendly confines of Hill Field House. 

 

Aside from the ‘Senior Night’ festivities, Friday’s match is an important one for the Lady Bears. Morgan State (8-20, 3-5 MEAC), which is coming off a 3-0 sweep of crosstown rival Coppin State last Sunday, currently sits in a two-way tie with Hampton for the fourth and final spot in the MEAC North Division. Hampton (8-17, 3-5 MEAC) visits No. 3 Howard on Friday, before hosting Morgan State on Sunday afternoon.

 

Morgan State has been led by Erin Cox, who ranks fifth in the MEAC in kills with 3.16 per set and Bush, who ranks 10th in the MEAC in kills with 2.68 per set. Christa Rogers who leads Morgan State with 7.75 assists per set, ranks fifth overall in the MEAC, while Dina Beamon is fourth in the MEAC in digs (3.36) in the MEAC.

 

Delaware State (16-12, 6-2 MEAC), which has already secured second-place in the MEAC North Division, is coming off a 3-0 sweep of Howard at home on Sunday, Nov. 1. The Hornets have been paced by Cassandra Joyner, who ranks fourth in the conference in kills, leads the team in kills with 3.21 per set, total blocks (84) and is second in digs per set with 2.14. Martina Ferrari leads the Hornets in digs per set with 3.43 and total assists (538). Ashley Herman has tallied 58 service aces.

 

Note: The time of Morgan State’s regular season finale this Sunday, Nov. 8 at Hampton, has been changed to 1 p.m. at Holland Hall on the campus of Hampton University. The match was originally slated for 3 p.m. The winner of Sunday’s match will secure the fourth and final spot in the MEAC North Division and will advance to the conference’s postseason championship, Nov. 20-22 hosted by Coppin State.
