Janet Chepkonga placed 6th for the Lady Bears on Saturday.
NEWARK, Del. (Sept. 16, 2006)—Despite competing in a 6K race, instead of the usual 5k event, the Morgan State women’s cross country team had a fine showing on Saturday, as it finished fifth with 153 points at the University of Delaware Invitational at White Clay Creek Park.
Led by Janet Chepkonga, who placed sixth with a time of 24:25.96, Morgan State placed four runners in the top 50. Trisha LaForce came in 32nd-place with a time of 26:42.00, while Sekayi Khalid (27:04.94) and Vivian McCollum (27:12.62) finished 42nd and 43rd, respectively.
Host Delaware narrowly captured the team title with 51 points to defeat Towson (53 points), which was led by Britta Nelson, who won the individual title. North Carolina (63) and Hofstra (64) rounded out the top four.
The Lady Bears are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 23, when they participate in the Cappy Anderson Invitational hosted by the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore. The race is set to begin at 10 a.m. in Princess Anne, Md.
